New Date Proposed in Donna Adelson Murder Trial

On Tuesday, Donna Adelson appeared in court with her new legal team as she gets ready to face charges for allegedly orchestrating the murder of her former son-in-law.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Adelson is charged with the murder of Florida State University law professor Dan Markel, who was fatally shot in his garage on July 18, 2014. Her son, Charlie Adelson, along with his ex-girlfriend Katherine Magbanua and hitmen Sigfredo Garcia and Luis Rivera, was convicted in connection with the case.

Court TV reports that Donna Adelson has hired new attorneys, Jackie Fulford and Josh Zellman, after her former legal team was unexpectedly forced to resign in September. Previously, she was represented by Daniel Rashbaum, who also defended Charlie during his murder trial.

On the eve of the trial, Rashbaum withdrew due to a conflict of interest, prompting the dismissal of his co-counsel for the same reason.

Zellman informed Judge Stephen Everett that the defense is still in the process of obtaining discovery materials and transcripts. He mentioned that the prosecutor’s office will cooperate in securing the documents, as Donna’s previous legal team has not provided everything.

Everett directed that all discovery and deposition transcripts be submitted by the next case management hearing on February 11.
